Cheese & Charcuterie Clubs Worth Gifting: The Board, Delivered Monthly

When I can’t build the board myself, this is what I send instead — and the one great charcuterie club I name even though it earns nothing here.

Some recommendations on this page use tracked merchant links. None of them earns anything today — every programme for this page is still pending approval. We count recommendation clicks only to understand what readers find useful.

The plain answer

A cheese club is worth gifting when it does one of two jobs: it either arrives as a board — cheese, something cured, something sweet or sharp to set them off, and a vehicle to carry them — or it teaches. The board-style clubs are gifts for hosts. The discovery clubs are gifts for the curious. Everything disappointing in this category comes from confusing the two: a box of three challenging wedges is a wonderful present for a cheese obsessive and a puzzling one for a couple who just wanted something nice for Friday.

One name belongs in this guide without a card: Olympia Provisions, an Oregon salumeria whose Salami of the Month, Makers Club and Charcuterie Club are among the most thoughtful charcuterie subscriptions in the country. It has no affiliate programme we could find, so it earns nothing here and gets no buy button — it is named because a chef’s list of charcuterie clubs that omitted it would not be an honest list. Search for it by name if cured meat is the gift you want.

The clubs, card by card

Cheese Board Club

Sold by Murray's Cheese

Not read from a merchant page on , so no figure is shown. Plans are 3, 6 or 12 months; the merchant shows the current price at purchase. Price checked .

  • A monthly Murray's Cheese club designed to arrive as a board, not just as cheese.
  • Boxes include cheeses together with charcuterie and accompaniments.
  • Sold in 3-, 6- and 12-month plan lengths.

Why I’d send this: Of the cheese clubs here, this is the one I would send to someone who hosts. It arrives closest to ready-to-serve, which is the difference between a gift and a project.

Limitations: It is a board kit, not a finished board — the recipient still arranges it. Contents are merchant-selected and perishable. Verify price, shipping and timing with the merchant before ordering.

Florida: Ships to Florida (food; nationwide online sales per the merchant).

International Cheeses Subscription

Sold by iGourmet

From $83.00/month

Price as shown on the merchant's own subscription page on . Prepaid 3/6/12-month plans and a pay-per-box option exist; the merchant's page is the authority at purchase. Price checked .

  • A monthly iGourmet subscription of three or four international cheeses plus two pairings, per the merchant's page.
  • Boxes ship in the third week of each month and include a tasting guide, per the merchant.
  • Prepaid 3-, 6- and 12-month plans and a monthly pay-per-box option are offered.

Why I’d send this: The broadest, most giftable cheese subscription here — the pairings and the tasting guide do the teaching, so it lands well even with someone who is curious rather than expert.

Limitations: Selections are merchant-curated; you cannot pick the cheeses. Perishable — plan for the third-week shipping rhythm the merchant describes. Confirm the current per-month price for the plan length you choose before ordering.

Florida: Ships to Florida (food). No state exclusion found on the merchant's subscription pages.

Cheese Explorer's Club

Sold by Murray's Cheese

No price is published here: the merchant's club prices were not read from a merchant page in the build-day check, so no figure is borrowed from review sites. Plans are sold in 3-, 6- and 12-month lengths; the current price is shown by the merchant at purchase. Price checked .

  • A monthly cheese club from Murray's Cheese, a New York cheesemonger.
  • Sold in 3-, 6- and 12-month plan lengths.
  • Each box is built around bold, discovery-style picks, including a club-exclusive cheese.

Why I’d send this: This is the club I would send the friend who already buys good cheese and wants to be surprised. It is a discovery box, not a greatest-hits box — that is exactly its point.

Limitations: You do not choose the cheeses; selections are the merchant's and rotate. Cheese is perishable — the recipient needs to be home to receive it or able to refrigerate it promptly. Confirm current price, shipping cost and delivery timing on the merchant's site before ordering.

Florida: Ships to Florida (food; merchant states nationwide online sales). Perishable shipping terms are set by the merchant at checkout.

Cheese & Charcuterie Reserve Subscription

Sold by iGourmet

From $110.00/month

As shown on the merchant's subscription page on . Price checked .

  • A monthly iGourmet subscription combining artisan cured meats, selected cheeses and gourmet accompaniments, per the merchant.
  • One of five subscription themes on the merchant's subscription page.

Why I’d send this: If the recipient's idea of a perfect evening is a board and a long conversation, this is the subscription built for them — meat and cheese together, which is how a board actually gets eaten.

Limitations: Cured-meat contents vary by month and are merchant-selected. Perishable shipping applies. Confirm price, contents policy and timing on the merchant's page before ordering.

Florida: Ships to Florida (food).

How to choose

Start with the recipient’s fridge, not their palate. Clubs ship on the merchant’s rhythm — one of the merchants here sends boxes in the third week of the month — and cheese does not forgive a week in a vacation-empty house. Next, decide board or lesson: if they entertain, buy the board-style club; if they read labels for pleasure, buy the discovery club. Finally, mind the plan length. A three-month plan is a gift; a twelve-month plan is a commitment you are making on someone else’s behalf, and it should be reserved for people you know finish what they start — cheese included.

What none of these do

None of them replaces a cheesemonger who knows your taste and cuts to order. None of them can promise a specific cheese in a specific month — selections are seasonal and merchant-chosen, and substitutions happen in this category as a matter of course. And none of them is a catering solution: if you need a board for twenty on Saturday, that is a shopping trip (or a private chef), not a subscription.

Best for…

For the curious palate

Connoisseur's Cheeses Subscription

Sold by iGourmet

From $89.00/month

As shown on the merchant's subscription page on . Price checked .

  • iGourmet's rarer-cheese subscription tier, per the merchant: three or four rare and unique cheeses plus two pairings per month.
  • Offered in prepaid multi-month plans and a pay-per-box option, per the merchant's subscription page.

Why I’d send this: Send this one to the person who has already had the famous cheeses. Rarity is the gift here — the fun is in tasting something they could not have found at their own market.

Limitations: Rare means unpredictable: a given month may challenge a mild palate. Merchant-selected and perishable. Verify the current price and plan terms with the merchant.

Florida: Ships to Florida (food).

For the cook who wants a project

Culinary Explorer Subscription

Sold by iGourmet

From $63.00/month

As shown on the merchant's subscription page on — the lowest-priced theme on that page. Price checked .

  • A monthly iGourmet subscription of two to three gourmet pantry ingredients drawn from global specialties, per the merchant.
  • Pantry-focused rather than cheese-focused, unlike the merchant's other themes.

Why I’d send this: For the cook, not the grazer. A pantry ingredient they have never used is an invitation to a new dish — this is the subscription most likely to change what someone cooks on a Tuesday.

Limitations: Ingredients require cooking to be enjoyed — it is not a ready-to-eat gift. Contents are merchant-chosen. Confirm the current price and plan terms with the merchant.

Florida: Ships to Florida (food).
